This is my Mali Uromastyx, Scute (y'know....like the armour plates on alligators....'cause it's got an armoured tail). I have yet to determine correctly if it's male or female. The pet store I bought it from told me it was male, and pointed out the bulge at its vent that should indicate the hemipenes, as well as the femoral pores. However, given that it hasn't coloured up and the shape of its head, Deer Fern Farms (one of the better Uro breeders out there) has told me that it's more likely female, so I have no clue.

Judge for yourselves...

Nice looking Mali. It will be interesting in the next years to see if he colors up. I am going out on a limb here, but he looks like a male. He has a nice wide head. Our male we got from Doug at Deer Fern Farms did not really start getting his yellow until he was nearing 2 years old. He is now a bit over 2.5 years old and still is not super yellow. He had gotten a lot darker in color over the last year.

Well even though Deer Fern Farms said it was probably female based off the pics, it does seem to be colouring up a little bit, it's legs and head are darker, and its back is becoming a more yellow colour as it gets older, so who knows? *shrug*

Look at some of their (Deerfern's) Malis on their species page. There's a lot of their adult females that, if solely based on color, I would've pegged as males. Females can color up nicely, too.
