Uromastyx.org

I have yet to keep any uromastyx....but I would have to say Uromastyx Thomasi seems like the most fascinating and unique.. I would like to own some of these in the future. Babies run $1500-$2000 each....so that won't be happening anytime in the future. There are only a handful of people breeding them and I think the majority of them are in Europe.

My all-time favorite has to be the Ornate Uromastyx, even though I have never had one. I think they are beautiful and maintain a decent, manageable size. Their temperament is very nice. I plan to get some via bartering.

But like tortoises, it is hard to pick a favorite uromastyx. I am sure we all agree on that!

I will admit that when my wife first expressed interest in getting Uros 2 yrs ago, I was like, meh. I'm more of a snake guy, honestly. But the little squirts have grown on me. Diving a little deeper into their world, and drawing most of my knowledge base from Deer Fern Farms' website, I didn't realize how many species there actually were.

I like the Saharans a lot, mostly due to their smaller size. Ironically however, I do want to get my hands on an Egyptian one of these days for the opposite reason! A Uro the size of a savannah monitor? Who wouldn't want one?

Of course, the ornates appeal to me for obvious reasons. But I would like the opportunity to eventually try my hand at any of the more obscure species, like bandeds, Orange bentis, etc.

Wow, those are some different looking uros, aren't they? My favorites are, of course, the ornates. We only have three species, but I still say Ornies are the best. I do really like Hardwickiis (indian uromastyx) but I don't know them very well. I love the ornates because they are mine, and because they have snotty, ornery personalities. My Lyra is the queen of brats, but even Sabriel, the other female, is nasty. Ornates will flip their tails at us, hiss, chase each other around the cage. They can be nasty at times, so why do we love them so much for it? They're also absolutely beautiful, and so so colorful!

I like ones with four legs.

Yeah, it's hard, and of course I love them all, but something about the Ornates is magical. I don't know whats magical about snotty, bratty lizards, but it is.

Try an iguana. :p Or a boxer-rottweiler who drools on your face in the middle of the night, and pushes the husband out of bed.

The uros are tame, comparatively!

Oh no way!!! I adore my uros to the death!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, I guess my snotty little uros aren't all that bad. I'll think of how much worse they could be whenever Lirael is being particularly ornery. ;D
