I will describe our general set up for our Uros. It is not unique and we have followed what many other successful Uro keepers have done. We like Showcase cages. We use the 48" size. We have used numerous different items for hides to include hollow driftwood, rubbermaid containers, slate, and cermaic floor tiles. We use millet for our bedding and have been very happy with it. I will be the first to admit, I am no expert in Uro keeping, and I hope to learn from others.

Good to know there is someone else with the same cage. What are you doing for lighting? I'm thinking 150w basking bulb and 48" reptisun 10.0 bulb. I also got a 6"x8" heater pad for the bottom but not sure if I will need it.

I'm going millet also. Have a basking platform under the lamp and hide cave on the cool side. If there is room I'm thinking some driftwood in the middle. Will these guys try to eat fake cactus if I put one in?

Hey Mike,if you are getting the 48" showcase, you will not need 150W basking bulb. I have a photo of a double cage I made here double-enclosure-t63.html. You can see the basking area. We use a floor tile raised off the bottom with a couple of pavers. With this we can achieve proper temps ~130F using a regular 60W incandescent bulb. We use a 24 inch Reptisun 10.0 for UVB. I have also added an extra bulb in the precut hole in the corner. I use the insert Mark sends with the cage. I cut it some to fit an extra ceramic socket that I have found at Ace Hardware. I use a low wattage flourescent bulb, see attached photo.

This set up is working very well for us and we have it on all our Uros. I hope it helps.

Yea you're right. Thanks for the heads up. I got the cage today and set it up with the 150w bulb and nothing in the cage. The bottom of the cage was reaching 160 degrees before I turned it off. I'm so used to these tall 55gallon cages my first reaction is to get 150w. Anyone need two 150w bulbs? lol.
