Hi all (the few that are here lol),

I am on the waiting list for a pair of carrot tails from Innovative Ectotherms and I'm really excited. I had lurked around these forums a few months ago when I got on the waiting list but was a little disappointed with the lack of activity, especially for the chucks (I guess that's too be expected, most people haven't even heard of them) but saw Emilie's post on Innovative Ectotherms fb page which reminded me to come and check it out again :)

I've read several caresheets and I think I'm probably going to look for a 40 gallon breeder tank while a friend of mine is building some custom enclosures for me (I have a beardie and am getting a ball python next week and have plans for many more bally pythons). Right now the plan is 6x2x2 and they will be stackable.

A couple of basic questions that I couldn't really find anywhere else:

I know the chucks are well known for being docile, I'm wondering if the hatchlings are docile as well or more skittish (I'm thinking along the lines of bearded dragons, the hatchlings can be pretty nutso for the most part)?

Also wondering when they start getting their incredible adult colors?

I"m sure I'll have a zillion more questions once I start getting their first enclosure setup and then actually get them :)

Shiloh

p.s. it would awesome if current owners would post pics of their enclosures under the enclosures section ;)

Hi Shiloh, Welcome to the forum. Our near 2 year old Red backs are very out going. We have had them since they were around 4-6 months old. They are not very skittish at all. They will be waiting at the front of the enclosure for their food. We think the world of Chucks. You can see photos of our enclosures on different posts here. We have them set up very much like our Uros. We use Showcase cages, the 4X2X2 size. They are great because you can stack them. Can't wait to see photos of your new friends when you have them.

hey!

my post? surely not? lol i post far too much i think lol.

i will post pics of set up asap but im really panicked at the moment getting things ready for the new female.

my hatchlings were amazingly docile to start with and then became a little skittsh a few days ago but they are still really trusting.
i wouldnt say they are like beardie hatchlings at all really. they are more intelligent in my opinion lol. but thats just me lol.
