I finally took some photos of our Egyptian Uro we got from Lindsey Pike down in Daytona this year. His name is King Tut. Long live the king!

UPDATE!

Here's a recent little photoshoot of King Tut. A few months ago, we moved from the reptile room into our living room. I was hoping this would help get him more accustomed to our presence as he is rather skittish and shy. However, its been rather chilly this past holiday season, and the temps weren't quite as high as I had preferred. This probably helped simulate his little self-imposed brumation.

But last week, I upgraded his lighting a little and the basking temps are back where I (and he) prefers. He has since gotten a lot more active, seems to be eating more readily, and consequently looks like he's adding a little weight.

Very nice!! Thanks for sharing, I love the set-up. What a spoiled little guy you have. He looks like he has good weight, doesn't look thin at all. Well done!!

I have to say, though....while he is perking up a little, this is still one of the most laziest Uromastyx I've ever owned!

My pair of Saharans...if the basking lights came on at 8am, they were underneath it by 8:30am. "King Tut" will sleep in til like, 11am before he finally gets up and basks. Then he'll lounge around and eat a little, but he'll be back in his little corner by 4 in the afternoon. Is he still just coming out of brumation?

Hi. Welcome to the forum. I find that there is a little dust in the air when my Uro digs. He uses his front and back legs when he is digging. I have watched this carefully and noticed that the dust forms behind the Uro and drifts away from him. As you might know Uros have a habit of using their tongue to taste everything but they don't seem to pick up any sand when they do. I feed my Uro using bowls sitting on large pieces of flagstone so he doesn't eat any sand with his food. I know many keepers of Bearded Dragons suggest not to use sand until the lizard is over 8". I suppose you could apply the same rule to Uros but they love to dig more that Beardies do.

Yeah, i think I said it in another thread, but I recently switched to the playsand sold at Toys-R'Us. Not dusty at all compared to the stuff from Lowe's.
