Hi!

I've worked with uros (mainly malis) at a reptile rescue for 10 yrs and have finally got a new yellow Sahran uro. He/she is approximately 9 months old (the pet store said the breeder didn't provide that info), 48 grams and 7 1/2 inches long. I am owned by a 9 yr old male German giant and 2 female leos so I am new to the world of uros and want to get my little one off to a good start. Any and all information on care, sexing and temperment is GREATLY appreciated. I feed Ubie spring mix (without spinach), turnip, mustard, dandelion greens, escarole, endive, dried lentils/peas and use a calcium powder. I have uro dust but have heard some bad things about it. Ubie also gets small mealies 2x/week. He won't eat crix for some reason. I was told to feed insects for his first year and then go with a strictly vegetarian diet. The little guy/girl won't touch blueberries, strawberries which I thought they were supposed to love.

My baby has a white belly and some yellow in his sides and bands on his/her back. The vet thinks it's a male because of enlarged femoral pores, but I'm not so sure.

Thanks for all your help! I hope to be a good uro mom, and become a knowledgable keeper!

Hi Saundra,

Welcome. There is some great information on care under the care sheet section. Remember where they are native to, not much in the way of fruit there. We never feed any fruit or bugs. They will eat them, however they do best without. You will read mixed reports and ideas, so you do what you think is best. We do use Repashy Uro dust once a week. Post some photos of the little one. If you include photos of the femoral pores, we can give you a guess about sex.
