I have a 3 month old juvenile female ornate that has been hiding the past two days. I think it's because her heat bulb burned out yesterday while I was out and the enclosure got cold. The burrow is heated with a reptile heat mat taped to the outside of the glass and stays 80 degrees during the day. The temps got up today after I replaced the bulb; basking temp is 120, and the rest of the tank fades from high 90s to mid 80s. However she did not come out to eat. She's usually running around in the mornings from 8am to noon, and then retreats to her hide the rest of the time. I think she knows it's winter and is not as active.

Can anyone let me know if this is in response to the lack of heat? Or do I have a more serious issue? I did have her hide when I first placed her in the tank, but she emerged after a day of hiding. 2 days in a row has me concerned.

No telling for sure, but I bet it is a response to the heat bulb. Time will tell. Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Thanks Tim!

She came out yesterday, and is also out today and running around the enclosure. Hopefully she'll eat her greens. :)

Great news. I hope you have good luck with them. We have not had the best luck with Ornates. They sure are amazingly pretty though!
