Hi from AZ
I wanted to introduce myself.
My name is Kevin and I'm fairly new to keeping reptiles after keeping SW reef tanks since the 80's.
I'm currently keeping a pair of juvenile Uro Ornates and looking forward to adding a "Chuck" and either a desert or spiney tailed Iguana to the house.
I wanted to thank everyone for participating on forums like this and sharing their knowledge with others.
Thanks again.
Kevin

Hi Kevin, welcome to the forum. It is a little slow lately. I am having a tough time coming up with ideas to increase activity. Ornates are beautiful Uros. If you get a chance to get any Chucks, jump on it. They are great lizards. We really enjoy ours.

Welcome Kevin - I agree with Tim, get a chuck or two (only one male though, they are very territorial.) Desert Iguanas would go nicely as a cage mate with the chuck(s). A spiney tailed iguana would be challenging. Males get to be 4-5 feet and are the worlds fastest lizard. Still - very cool. Throw up some pictures when you get the chance.

Hi Kevin! Im new to the forum too!
how are your ornates getting on? would love to see some pics! ornates are stunning reps!

they have two juvi spiney tailed iguanas at the zoo i help out at, they are tiny at the moment but didnt know they grew that big, thats awesome. they are is a massive enclosure and really hard to find now but it will be great for them when they grow larger.
the igs are always up in the trees lol and are very inquisitive!
i had no idea that you could put chucks and desert igs in the same enclosure. they get along well? or do they not pay much attention to each other? i know they come from the same place, so it would make sense that they come across each other.
ive been told desert igs are more active than chucks? and that chucks are more docile?

Hi,
I'm glad to see another new comer!
The ornates are almost a year old now and the male is starting to color up especially around his head and neck.
I just moved them to a Vision 632 cage and they are very happy with the new larger home.
Pictures are going to have to wait until after my summer vacation and a surgery I have scheduled.
I'm currently working on getting a Chuck and have been in discussions with the game and fish department about importation of CBB Chucks and Desert Iguanas.
Arizona has some very interesting laws about reptiles and some hoops to jump through. It's looking like I may have to make a trip and catch my own pets. Right now the only loop hole I can find about importing Chucks is I'll need to find a non native species and somebody that is breeding them, other wise I will have to collect my own which I realy don't want to do for many different reasons.
As for keeping the Chucks and Igs together it will probably work if I keep them outdoors in a large enough pen. I would really like to make homes for the Uros outside as well.
Basically where I live I only need to worry about cold temperatures about three to four months a year, during that time I'll move them to an enclose sun porch.
I'm not sure about activity levels in captivity since I've only seen Chucks and Desert Igs in the wild or at our Desert Museum. I can tell you that both can be extremely fast when they have been sunning and you startle them. But I must say that the Desert Igs are flat out the fastest lizard I've seen in the desert so far.

thats cool! shame about all the laws etc. your so lucky having so much reptile wild life and amazing weather. UK weather sucks. about one maybe two months of good weather at best. not really fair on the chucks but i cant go moving around the world because of my hobbies. lol.
yeh i know my chucks sure do move fast, its amazing how quick their little legs can go! mine are both pretty active all day, the fatty not so much, he likes an early night.

because of the colder climate i dont worry too much though. i know if they got out they couldnt get far before they get cold and slow down lol.

im so jealous, i want more sunshine. its summer and its rained for the last few days :(
