I decided to do a little time change with the Saharans and Sudanese this year. I cut the hours of daylight and heat in about half. I had them down to about 6 hours. All would still get up and eat. I have now started increasing the time again and in another couple weeks will have it back to the normal cycle. I have seen both male Saharans doing push-ups and circling the females. I have seen the male Sudanese doing some push-ups. I am very excited about the group of Saharans. They are all very fat and sassy. The girls all have good weight going in to breeding. Some time around the end of February I will give them a new nest box. I have a new larger next box for them. Doug Dix told me that Saharans really like to dig deep. I hope it all works out and I get fertile eggs from them and that I can incubate them. :D

Anyone else turning the lights back up and seeing any breeding activity?

I did the same thing this year gradually reduced lighting from 14 hours per day to 6 hours now I am gradually adding a couple hours per week back to there schedule. I kept feeding greens but I removed all there dry food (beans, millet, bird seed, peas, lintels, etc.) at the beginning of the process. I will have all my adults back to 14 hours per day by February 12th and will start adding dry foods back to there diet again around that same time. This is my first year of trying a lighter brumation, in the past I always stopped feeding completely and turned out all the lights for 6 weeks or so, but this year I decided to try just reducing light cycle and continue feeding greens lighter type brumation.

I have not witnessed any pushups or head bobbing yet but I house all my Uromastyx separately. I am sure once I start putting females in male's cages for supervised visits I should get some breeding behavior.

Last year my Benti and Saharans breed in March. This year I plan to start introducing females in February. I sold my Saharans and Benti and I am now focusing on Ornates and white Ornates.

I hope you are successful getting your Saharans and Sudanese to breed this year.

Keep us posted and let us know if and when you witness them breeding.
