Gravid? Or just likes being here? Female Sudanese on 4/5/10 weighed 79g, on 5/3/10 weighed 96g. She is rather fiesty, won't share the hot rock with the male at all.

And what about this Saharan? On 4/20/10 weighed 193g and on 5/3/10 weighed 208g.

With the huge weight gain I'd say its likely. Though can't tell for sure from the pics. She is definitely nice and chubby! Do you see any lumps? They are harder to palpate than other lizards but usually the lumps are pretty obvious when they sit certain ways. When laying is eminent it very obvious.

We are sure hoping. The Sudanese is more lumpy in appearance than the Saharan, but they both look lumpy at times. Having just acquired them, I know that they have been housed together so it could have happened here or prior to coming here. I have an incubator and boxes all ready. Is it easy to know when they nest? Do you hear them digging? I don't dig in their nest boxes daily, should I? How exciting. Greg, do you rinse your eggs off? I do with my tortoise eggs, but not sure about with Uros.

I don't think she is gravid and I think you should send her my way....hahaha

Seriously, I hope she is gravid. The weight gain seems like it but it is hard to tell if she is lumpy. Good luck!

I will post a pic of the nest box that I use soon. It is a medium Rubbermaid tub with an entry hole cut into the lid. The tub is about 16"L x 7"H x 10"W (guesstimate). The hole I cut was 1.5 inch x 8 inches in a rectangle shape. I filled the entire tub with slightly moistened sand mixed with some vermiculite. Its filled entirely so the sand is pretty much flush with the hole cut into the lid. I stacked bricks so the female could easily get to the top of the tub and also put a brick on the lid so she didn't knock it off. I have never used their regular hide tubs as nest sites because I don't want the adults to hide there and damage the eggs before I find them.

My females did dig around the cage but I'd suggest getting a nest box in there soon just to be safe. I usually remove the box after i take out the eggs but i left it in this time with one of our ornates and she guards it every day, sleeping right under the brick bridging the lid above the entry hole. I have pics on my computer at home and will post.

I think uromastyx eggs are a bit more sensitive than other reptile eggs. I do not rinse them.

You will KNOW when your uro has laid the eggs, uros females are often like a balloon when gravid and look very very deflated after the eggs have been laid.

Greg
