Hi again! Yet another topic of interest to me!
My young chucks seem to enjoy coming out of the viv and having a run around, they really seem to enjoy climbing the sofa and me! I dont like to do this too often at the moment as they are still young and i wouldnt want to stress them, this has been done very gradually and they seem to have installed a fair bit of trust in me already.
as this is an active species, ive seen on vides of chucks in the wild moving very quickly over large areas, grazing etc.
im guessing its beneficial to keep them well exercised?
But i see some serious risks in letting them roam around the house as they could get themselves into trouble. the breeder of my two hatchlings allows her two chucks out into her garden, attended of course. I would worry that on hot days they would stray too far :S
im just wondering how long it would be appropiate to have them out of their enclosures? i often dont have them out very long, 5-10 mins, usually only 5 mins. im concerned about them going toilet on my furniture more than anything lol.
im also thinking of building an outdoor enclosure for our hottest summer days. what kind of size would be good for them?
i have used a large hamster cage a couple of times as we have had some really hot days and taken them outside. they really 'seemed' to enjoy the natural heat and sunlight.
thier vivariums are 5x2.5x3 foot and they really do make use of all of the space even being as small as they are! i think i may have to make even bigger ones at some point in the future!
