you cant over feed a chuckwalla as they only eat plant matter which has pretty much no fat content.
put out as much as you like and the chuck will eat what it likes. putting fresh food out later in the day is a good idea :)
if theres left over food then you know your putting enough out. though you dont want to waste loads so just keep a check on how much is being left over, some days he will want more than others.

just make sure your feeding 80-90% staple foods and its nice and varied.

dont feed lentils as they are very high in phosphur and low in calcium. loads of people seem to feed them and i have no idea why.

eight different plants a day is good. my boys eat pretty much everything, but their tastes do vary from time to time, for example they used to love chives but seem to have gone off it a bit and their new fav is carrot but i dont give them much because its higher in phos.
i try to keep a ratio of 2:1 minimum. then sparingly sprinkle on nutrobal and calcium +D3 daily while they are little. i mix the supplements in so you cant see them at all.

quality is much better than quantity but obviously they should be eating a lot of food because of the low nutritional value. my boys go through a handful of food which is about twice their size quite easily...greedy things! but as i said it does differ, some days they dont eat much at all and others they really pig out lol.

Thanks for the advice! My chuck is quite the little piggy too. I've been adding shredded carrots and some apple or grapes with his greens mix and giving him the calcium supplement about 3 - 4 times a week. I'll keep feeding him as much as he likes. Thanks again :)

yeh just not too much of the fruit etc.

i spoke to my herp vet today and he said that some herbi reptiles can actually become overweight! i was shocked! he explained that sometimes a rep can just become very greedy and when not stimulated to do exercise will become overweight!

to be honest i dont think many people will have this problem if they are on a good diet and provided with adequate space and enrichment such as things to climb on etc.
ill have to ask him more about this in an email he can respond to when hes got more time.

S. hispidus are notorious for being overweight but they look so cool when they are obese!
