2010 Saharan hatchlings.

I only hatched out one of the 3 clutches of eggs that I got this year. I treated all 3 clutches the same.
The 2 that failed were laid by unproven females and they laid them out in the open so I have high hopes for next years breeding season.

I was wondering the same thing. Glad to hear you had some success. We didn't have any more eggs than the duds our first time ornate laid. I hope for more next year.

Hello Tim,

The clutch that I hatch out the female laid 2 big old duds in the open and then 3 weeks later laid the rest of the clutch.
This time she buried them. One thing I did notice about all my females is that none of them laid until I moved they egg laying site to the hot end of the cage.
They would dig and dig but never lay, as soon as I moved the egg laying site to the hot end each of them laid within a day.

Of the 2 lizards that laid there eggs in the open, the eggs looked fertile but did not last in the incubator.
Makes me wonder if the females knew they would not hatch so why bother burying them.

One point of interest: I incubated at much higher temperatures then I did in the old days.
91 degrees and they upped it to 93 degrees they last couple weeks. Clutch hatched out in 53 days.
They hatched on July 4th, it will be easy to remember there hatch date.

I am wondering if the dud eggs just did not get fertilized. I house my pair separately and I plan on putting the pair together much earlier next year.

Hope you get some fertile eggs from your Ornates next year!

Troy
